Easy Essential Oil Recipe

After experiencing the wonderful feelings that aromatherapy can encourage, it's only natural to want to buy more and more aromatherapy products and essential oils to indulge in your new passion.

If you love the natural fragrances that flow gently from an aromatherapy candle, you may want to keep the scent in your home for good.  Instead of purchasing the scent all the time you may want to make your own.  This is not a simple process but if you work hard at it you can make it happen.  There are several things you need to know before you begin making it on your own.

Essential oils are the natural extracts found in stems, roots, leaves and trees.   You might want to grow your own plants for your favorite aromatherapy purposes.  If gardening is not you're thing, buying herbs from your local health food store will do.

Making your own essential oils require that plants are picked at a certain time of the day and year.  When picked at the right time the extract can be most effective.  After a process, the essential oils can be used for many things, including hair and skin products, fragrances, candles and more.

You can purchase all of your essential oil products on line or at the stores.  They can be very expensive, so you'll need to consider the costs of this hobby before starting.  Luckily, there are cheaper ways to satisfy your cravings to have a part in the creation process of aromatherapy.

You can make many products for yourself using essential oil recipes.  You can simply buy small sizes of the essential oils you use most and a few carrier oils.  You might also want to get some glass containers with droppers for storage purposes (remember, essential oils shouldn't be stored in plastic bottles).

To make your own recipe for silky soft hair you will need:

  • 4 drops of rosemary
  • 4 drops chamomile
  • Optional: a squeeze of fresh lemon for light hair

You simply mix the ingredients with 1.5 cups of water and pour over your hair after shampooing.  This essential oil recipe will leave your hair feeling soft and silky.

This is just one of the many recipes available out there. This is a great choice for beginners.  As you gain more experience, you can create your own lotion, bubble bath, shampoo, conditioner and body wash.  If you would like emotional balance and health, you can create a special blend for energy, romance, stress reducer, study and more.

Here's one for sore, aching feet:

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 3 drops lavender

Mix these ingredients and use the oil to massage your feet.  The lavender will ease the pain while the olive oil encourages penetration and eliminates dryness.  You may also want to put some socks on your feet after the massage to lock the oils in, where they will then absorb and moisturize your skin.

Each essential oil does something different, and some oils are blended in order to make certain oils for a special need.  Knowing what oil does what is the first thing you should research before using any oils on yourself.  It's better to be safe than sorry.

There are special rules when making essential oil recipes for children.  When you read an essential oil recipe it is usually for an adult dosage. But if you are making it for children you may need to dilute it quite a bit, depending on the age of the child.  Naturally, older children will better tolerate slightly stronger formulas.

There are many ways to get the best experience from essential oils.  Explore your options and have fun.
